22 Years Experience of Working in Mental Health Settings
To give you some information about myself, originally from the UK, I completed my psychology training at the University of Wolverhampton in 2006. In the UK, I was a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), was on the Register of Chartered Psychologists and was registered as a healthcare professional with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) until July 2012 when I emigrated to Australia.
Much of my experience has been working in the public sector, for the National Health Service (NHS) in England, within a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). A CMHT is a multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, psychiatrists, community psychiatric nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and psychologists. I have experience of working in both Primary care settings (with mild-moderate mental health problems) and Secondary care settings (with severe and enduring Mental Health problems). Working on the frontline of the NHS, I come from a medical background and have experience of working under pressure in a high-demand service with a wide variety of mental health problems.
Operating under the business name; ‘Northern Beaches Counselling Psychology’, I am based at Barrenjoey Psychology in Warriewood. I am fully Registered with The Psychology Board of Australia and specialise in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help people manage their problems, although I am trained in a variety of psychological therapies and am also EMDR qualified.
I aim to help clients identify and tackle their problems to achieve positive change and personal growth.
As a busy working mum of two, I understand how life can feel overwhelming at times. I also appreciate how vulnerable people can feel and how difficult it can be to talk about very personal problems. That is why I offer a warm and friendly counselling service, where you can talk, in confidence, to an experienced professional in a non-judgmental and safe environment. By working together, in a trusting therapeutic relationship.
